Product Description

Apivar: An Effective Treatment for Varroa Mites

Apivar is a polymer strip designed to combat Varroa mite infestations in honeybee colonies. It stands out as the only product of its kind that not only treats active infestations but also prevents future generations of mites. With just one application, Apivar can eliminate up to 99% of Varroa mites.

What’s Inside Apivar?

Each Apivar strip contains two key components:

Amitraz – A miticide that disrupts Varroa mites by overstimulating their nervous system, causing paralysis. This makes the mites lose their grip on bees, causing them to fall to the hive’s bottom, where they eventually starve.

Plastic Polymer Strip – Engineered for controlled, gradual release of amitraz over at least six weeks. The strip’s rigid design ensures it stays securely in place, preventing displacement by bees.

How to Use Apivar

For optimal results, Apivar should be applied twice per year:

Spring Treatment (before nectar flow begins): Reduces mite populations before honey production, ensuring a healthy colony for maximum yield.

Autumn Treatment (after honey harvest): Critical for eliminating mites before winter bee brood emerges. This treatment is especially vital because winter bees are more vulnerable, and reducing mite loads increases the colony’s survival chances during cold months.

Placement Matters

Since Apivar works by contact, strips must be placed in high-traffic bee areas where Varroa mites breed. Proper positioning ensures maximum exposure and effectiveness.

Why Autumn Treatment is More Important

Winter bees face heightened stress, making them more susceptible to mite-related harm. The autumn application, combined with winter patties if needed, significantly boosts the colony’s resilience through harsh conditions.
